Cultural and touristic events

  • The "Sillon de Talbert" (Pleubian - Côtes d'Armor) has recovered its beauty. Located between the 7 Isles archipelago and the island of Bréhat, the natural sand and pebble-bank, property of the "Conservatoire du Littoral" (Coastal protection agency),. has benefited from works to regain its original aspect. The carparks or the unsightly electric wires are no longer to be seen. The vegetation, and especially the yellow hornpoppy, grows again on the dune, protected from the excessive attendance of the site. The population of terns has dobled within one year (from 16 to 45 individuals). The site is listed as a "remarkable site of Brittany". A visitor centre of the "Sillon" has been opened.
  • The Colbert in the cemetery of Landévennec (Landévennec - Finistère): since the 25th of June, the ship cemetery of Landévennec on the river Aulne has been sheltering the ex-cruiser missile launcher. It is the last mooring of the ship brought into commission in 1959 and converted into a missile launcher between 1970 and 1972 in Brest. Among her memorable missions: to provide transport for the General de Gaulle to Canada in June 1967. It is during this trip that he delivered the well-known sentence "Vive le Québec libre" ("Long live free Quebec"). Her demolition has been planned for 2010. In the meantime, the french Navy will use her to provide spare parts for the Jeanne d'Arc.
  • Belle-Ile-en-Mer pays a tribute to Sarah Bernhardt: the small fort and the two residences of The Poulains headland, where the tragic actress received artists and friends during 30 years have been saved from ruins. Located on a 11 hectares site, property of the "Conservatoire du Littoral", they have been converted into a museum. The Villa "Five parts of the world" recounts the actress's career. The famous french actress Fanny Ardant's voice guides the visitor. The houses are the jewels of a natural area entirely rehabilitated by the "Conservatoire".
  • The first Marine Park created in the Iroise Sea (3.500 km2): at last! After years of hesitation, the decree has been signed. The Iroise Sea stretches at the confluence of the English Channel and the Atlantic. It is the refuge for about 150 seals, 80 dolphins and thousands of seabirds. It is also home to the largest seaweed field in Europe. The mission of the Park will be to improve and to spread the knowledge of the ecosystems, to maintain the population of protected species, to reduce pollutions, to control the activities of extraction of materials. It will also take care of the sustainable exploitation of fishing resources, back up the professional coastal fishing and the long-lasting exploitation of the seaweed fields. Besides, it will support maritime activities on the islands, preserve the maritime and architectural heritage and finally control the development of tourism.
  • The breton sardine gets a Label Rouge: the little Breton is the first fresh wild fish to get this quality label. It is the most caught fish in France (20 000 t a year), half in Brittany . The aim is to increase the value of the Breton production by 5%. In order to get this quality label, the fat rate must reach at least 8%. It is the case at the end of spring when it is well fed. Its fishing area is limited: the southern coasts of Brittany, the bay of Douarnenez, the Vilaine estuary. Currently, fishing is performed off the Pays Bigouden and the fish is landed in St-Guénolé-Penmarch.
  • 14th century walls discovered in Dinan: at the foot of the ramparts, they flank a former way which used to be one of the main entrance to the medieval town 500 years ago. These walls have been found when building stairs in order to have better access to this forsaken door. The layers of sediment discovered with those stairs revealed seven levels, dating from seven different periods of the history of the town since the 14th century.
  • Alignments of Carnac : a new plan has been set up to develop the site while respecting the inhabitants around.
  • Bilingual roadsigns (french/breton) are more and more numerous on our roads.
